    BIO for Dear Diary

I came up with the name 'Dear
Diary' back in 1999 when I
    purchased my first 12-string
acoustic guitar. At that time, I
    had made the transition from
playing music with a group of
friends in a local punk band to
    writing my material on the
    acoustic guitar. It became a
way for me to catalogue and
capture events in my life. It
has since become a means of
    journaling for me. I've never
    been able to dedicate myself
    to maintaining a written journal

(although I wish I could). However, the music that I write and record is very much a diary of my
    life...hence the name.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU AS AN ARTIST?

From an artistic perspective, the ability to communicate emotions through the medium of
songwriting is both inspiring and unique. Music allows me the freedum to express myself in
way that others can relate to at some level. It's rewarding to be able to reach people and
elicite emotional reactions from them through my music. For myself, writing and performing
music has always been about reaching out and making those connections with others. From a
musical standpoint, there have been several influential artists that have inspired me
throughout my life, key among those being The Cure.  Their music has truly been an major
influence in my life for more than 15 years.  I admire
their musical intregrity and Robert Smith's brutally
honest and emotionally charged music, all of which
has inspired me in my own musical endeavors.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE
    SONG 'GIVING UP' ?

It was an angry response to someone that broke my
heart. It is, in essence, an apathetic and subjective
decleration of disdain and discontent juxtaposed

The Richmond Buzz will be featuring commentary on Musician blogs locally and nationally.
What is a blog you ask?  The term "blog" is short for  "web blog".  Blogs feature text, photos,
and links to other web pages.   There are many variations to how blogs are set up, but
essentially an author of a blog will post journal entries and web surfers can write
comments.   Blogs are displayed in a reverse chronological order displaying a string of
entries and comments.  Blogs are a nice way to get more information about an individual or
subject.  The popularity of blogging has soared since its start in the 1990's.  Ready to get
your blog on?  Click here for the Richmond Buzz Music Blog Community.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE SONG 'CITY LIGHTS' ?

A good friend of mine committed suicide years ago. It took me several years until I was able to
fully write about it. This song is the end result.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT/EVENT AS A MUSICIAN IN 2006?

To be honest, being able to begin performing again has been the highlight of my year. I had
been busy with graduate school and hadn't been able to devote time to performing live. Now
that I'm getting a chance to share my music with others, the response has been great and has
been met with a warm reception!
