What are your live show like?
(Chris Merkley)
Sounds like a freight train comin' through...(in my best John Lee Hooker voice)

What was the inspriation behind writing the song ' Signifying Monkey"??
(Nyles Fitzgerald)
My Uncle Bumman used to be fond of the saying, "The Monkey lives here."
When somebody would fuss at him for his apartment being messy or something
like that, he would use this phrase which I think means that the monkey is a
mischievous creature and is going to do as he pleases.  Africana scholar Henry
Louis Gates, Jr., who teaches at Harvard, wrote a book called "Signifying
Monkey"  where he traces the figure of the monkey as a trouble maker from
African relgions into American traditions.  Finally, G.W. looks kind of like a
monkey, doesn't he?

To Kevin: Share a story or give some kudos about why Nyles and his talents
stand out in your band.
(Kevin Denton)
Nyles is a remarkable musician- pure creativity. Sometimes it kills me the tunes
he comes up with,  always haunting & remarkable changes. He lives with
the same gusto he puts into the music, which would probably explain the scars
and chipped teeth. Nyles can write a fictional tune, none of this self-examining
memoir-ish stuff that everyone else does. That is the mark of a great songwriter
in my eyes. He's a real gem.

To Nyles: Share a story or give some kudos about why Chris and his talents
stand out in your band.
(Nyles Fitzgerald)
Merk is pure talent.  After playing with him in The Crooners for five years, he
still comes up with intuitive, compelling, Mississippi-marinated improvisations on
the guitar and harmonica that continue to make me holler and cat call like I've
got teretts   In addition to that, he writes some very honest, clairvoyant, catchy
tunes that are a pleasure to get behind.  Besides, he is the inventor of the
modern day St. Vitus dance: the "hotfoot." And he smells good.

To Chris: Share a story or give some kudos about why Kevin and his talents
stand out in your band.
(Chris Merkley)
Kevin draws energy from everything surrounding him and gives me and Nyles
no other choice but to follow suit.  He has a keen ear for what works (and what
doesn't) and isn't afraid to let us know when we haven't brought a rocker to the
table.  Kevin taught me the right way to play a resonator...really hard.  He's the
type of guy that will play the most rockinest s**t you've ever seen, then
spontaneously jump up on some dusty piano in the corner of the room at the
end of the night and melt every European heart within earshot.

gaining the respect of it's cult-like fans one at a time on street corners, in
cafes, and concert halls.

Longtime friends since 1998 where they met at Cornell University, Nyles
Fitzgerald (washtub bass), Kevin Denton (guitar) , and Chris Merkley (guitar &
harmonica) evolved into The Crooners after coming across Danny Fitzgerald,
Nyles's great-uncle, the undisputed European granddaddy of the buskers and
longtime band leader of The Lost Wandering Blues and Jazz Band, arguably
one of the most successful street acts in history.

The Crooners started out on the streets of Paris, but soon brought their
high-powered arrangements of blues and swing classics indoors back in the
states. They released their first, self-titled album in 2003 followed by a live
album in 2004 both accompanied by relentless European tours.

2006 saw the release of The Crooners first all-original album, So Many
Places. Recorded at the band's loft in Brooklyn and mastered at Electric
Wilburland Studios in Newfield, NY, the album showcases the band's
songwriting and production talents. The album also echoes the band's of
diverse musical interests from Robert Johnson and Fats Waller to Neil Young
and The Beatles.

So Many Places has brought The Crooners acclaim from the press and radio
play across the United States. The band continues to tour and record, playing
to larger crowds in larger venues, but never abandoning the street corners
where they started out.
In their five year
existence, The
Crooners have brought
their interpretation of
roots rock to no less
than 11 countries and
14 states. Combining
American traditions of
blues, swing, folk and
country in a
performance that is
pure rock n' roll, the
group has hotfooted
