How did Choke Chain form, and who are the original members?
(Niina)
Choke Chain formed in 2000. The original members are Steve Fletcher
and Matt Wells. The current line up has been together for 3.5 years.
(The Richmond Buzz)
How did you come up with the name for the band?
(Niina)
To represent the restraint of our society, the name Choke Chain was the
perfect symbol of this.
(The Richmond Buzz)
What were some of the
other names you
considered?
(Niina)
At first, the band was
considering Choke, but
it needed a little
something more.
(The Richmond Buzz)
When someone goes
to a Choke Chain
show, what can they
expect?
(Niina)
You can expect a lot of
moshing normally.
Once we start
playing, encouraging
the audience to hold
still is not a good idea.
(The Richmond Buzz)
What do you think
makes Choke Chain
different or stand out
(Niina)
Firstly, all of our music is original. It was hard to classify ourselves as Death
Metal because we incorporate so many different strains of metal in our
sound. Also, having a female member of
the band sets us apart, because
there aren't a lot of women that are
interested in metal.
(The Richmond Buzz)
Who would you say influenced you musically in your personal life? Who
got you interested in Death Metal?
(Niina)
We all have different people who've influenced us. Mostly, it was in our
nature to gravitate towards an angry, loud music.
(The Richmond Buzz)
What is the best part about being a musician?
(Niina)
The best part of being
a musician is tearing it
up! Seriously, we do it
for the fans. There is
nothing like watching
an audience go wild
when you get on stage.
(The Richmond Buzz)
What is the biggest
challenge you face as
a musician?
(Niina)
The biggest challenge
that we face is dealing
with dishonest people.
When you're trying to
get out in front of an
audience, we find it
extremely hard to find
someone who will give
you a fair shake.
(The Richmond Buzz)
Of all the songs you have written, which song are you the most proud of?
(Niina)
This is a question that we find nigh impossible to answer. We are very
proud of all of our songs, they mean different things to all of us. A popular
song amongst our fans is called "Hateful".  A lot of people can identify with
it.
(The Richmond Buzz)
What are the ingredients that keep a band together for the long haul,
what keeps Choke Chain pushing forward?
(Niina)
What keeps the band
together is our mutual
passion for our music. I
think that we keep
pushing each other
forward as well. Being
able to relate to each
other in our passion
makes it easy to keep
coming back for more.
(The Richmond Buzz)
What have been your
best and worst gigs?
(Niina)
Best Gig: We opened
for Six Feet Under last
year. Most of the
audience was awaiting
one of the most
prominent death metal
bands. A lot of the
other opening bands
(The Richmond Buzz)
Steve F., if Matt was no longer part of the band, what would be missing,
what does Matt bring to the table?
(Steve F.)
Matt is the essential
pack member. He takes
a key leadership role in
the band. He keeps us
sane when we're losing
it. Matt really defines the
true spirit of Choke
Chain.
(The Richmond Buzz)
Matt , if Niina was no
longer part of the band,
what would be
 missing,
what does Niina bring to
the table?
(Matt)
Without the low end,
there would be no
reason to have guitar at
all. The bass is the
backbone of the band.
(The Richmond Buzz)
Niina, if Steve R. was no longer part of the band, what would be missing,
what does Steve R. bring to the table?
(Niina)
Steve Reynolds really taught me a lot about the bass. I was really green
when I started performing with Choke Chain. He showed me what it takes
to be a guitarist. He brings a lot of knowledge to the table.
(The Richmond Buzz)
Steve R., if Chris was no longer part of the band, what would be missing,
what does Chris bring to the table?
(Steve R.)
Chris has brought a lot of talent and experience to the band. He really
holds us togther in a lot of different ways. His drum beats have a lot of
variety, which brings quite a bit to the table.
(The Richmond Buzz)
Chris, if Steve F. was
no longer part of the
band, what would be
missing, what does
Steve F. bring to the
table?
(Chris)
Fletcher is Choke
Chain. Without him, we
wouldn't be a band.
He's the crazy glue that
keeps us all
together. He is the
nastiness that we bring.
(The Richmond Buzz)
Where do you want to
see the band go from
here?
(Niina)
We'd like to get signed
by a label & hit the road!
(The Richmond Buzz) Here is the Fishbowl Question
For those in the band who has a tattoo - What is it a picture of and why did
you choose it?
(Niina)
Steve Fletcher has a tatoo of Choke Chain on his arm. It symbolizes his
faith that we will not be undone.

 from other Death Metal bands?
weren't death metal at all. So, once we started playing, we were finally
giving everyone a taste of what they were waiting for.  Worst gig~ Well,
we've had quite a few of them. But, I would have to say it was a show
arranged by Site of Suffering.  They were very
insistant that no one could
deviate from the line up. Then, once it was our turn to play, they kept
changing our schedule. No one would give us a
straight answer as to
when or if we were playing. We ended up leaving
the venue.
