So tell me how G.A.N.C. Records
got started, what was the initial
spark that brought you- Calvin
and Czar together?
(Yung C)
Man it started back in 2002, when
it was four people including
myself as the lead of the squad
(producer).  I had to find someone
that was on my level of music,
and that’s when Czar came in and
spit ( said a flow) and I was like
yes sir I got to get him.

(The Richmond Buzz)
How did you come up with the name of your group?
(Yung C)
G.A.N.C is a double meaning in itself…as a background stands for the hometown of the “artists” we
have. Georgia being G.A and North Carolina being N.C. as our guidelines for everyday actions the
“G:” stands for GET MONEY…A stands for ALWAYS STAY FOCUS…”N” stands for NEVER FALL
BACK…and “C” stands for CREATIVITY
(The Richmond Buzz)
If someone has never been to a GANC Records show, how would you describe it, what are your
shows like?
(Czar)
whenever we do have our first performance, believe me its going to be hype and full of energy, you
got to fill our music
(The Richmond Buzz)
What is the Richmond Rap scene
like?
(Czar)
To me its crazy bc you only see
one side of rap in Richmond, and
that’s just freestyling…to us its
more than music…its being
creative…Richmond rappers
aren’t that creative in my
perspective.
(The Richmond Buzz)
Who influenced you musically? Is there anyone in your personal life growing up that was musically
gifted or perhaps turned you on to a certain style of music?)
(Czar)
Of course Jay-Z, but I like lil wayne’s style and then I like pharrel who is definitely an influence to
me. NO one except myself…I’ve always loved music…and not just rap…I really like nusiqsouldchild
2.!
(Yung C)
I loved 2pac bc of his lyrical ability and his creativity. Jay-Z moved me into a position where I was
like I just got to start rapping.
(The Richmond Buzz)
How old were each of you when you picked up your first instrument, what did you play / or your first
vocal performance?
(Czar)
My first instrument was a pencil and a notebook, I started writing around fiftteen, people told me I
had hot metaphors! My boy threw on a beat and instead of raping I started singing, and we let
females and males hear the song, they were like “who’s that”.
(Yung c)
At seven years old I was playing the drums, I was constantly in talent shows singing different songs.
(The Richmond Buzz)
What is the best part about being a rapper/singer? What do you enjoy about it most?
(Czar)
I love making music that sounds
good not just anything. Anyone can
make a beat and throw a couple of
lyrics on it. that’s the best part of
being a rapper/singer…when
everything sounds good.
(YUNG C)
Making music people want to listen
to because it relates to them
personally.
(The Richmond Buzz)
What's the biggest challenge with trying to find success as a rap band here in Richmond?
(Czar)
The only problem is finding sources to hear us. We’ve sent cd’s to radio stations and clubs but no
one plays them. Chris Brown Trey Songz they were right down the street, they found a way to get
on…we have to do the same.
(Yung C)
With a flavor of music we produce, its hard for people to understand our style
The Richmond Buzz)
Tell me a little about your creative process when writing songs. What was the inspiration behind
some of the songs, give some examples?
(Czar)
My mind is everywhere I can come
up with a song in the booth in the
blink of eye.( I came up with a song
called Say Yes) you know when
you want someone to just say yes
no matter what the situation is
…you just want them to “SAy Yes”.
We have another song called
“Fitted” I came up with a sick
course…that will have everyone
going “bananas”…it goes “I Got My
New York Fitted…My LA
Fitted…My A-Town Fitted
On…AllDay”.
(Yung C)
When I grab the pen its all about things that have happen to me in the past or things that I would
like to accomplish in life such as the remix with India Arie “I am Ready For Love”…which Im talking
about a past relationship.
(The Richmond Buzz)
In your opinion what makes a rapper/R&B band great? What separates mediocre bands from ones
that stand out from the rest?
(Yung c)
Energy and creativity.
(Czar)
I agree such as when Busta Rhymes is spittin he brings crazy energy from his performance, and
then you have performers who just pump up the crowd and then sing.
(The Richmond Buzz)
Where would you all like to see the band go from here?
(Yung C and Czar)
ON TOP OF THE CHARTS!…Over seas were people don’t even know our names yet (smiles).
