What females have influenced your life and why?
( Laura Taylor )
My mother and my maternal grandmother have
both been huge influences in my life. They lived
their lives according to their own beliefs rather
than letting society dictate what their roles
would be.  Strong women for whom it was no
contradiction to be feminine as well. They come
to mind when I hear the quote "Well behaved
women rarely make history".

What is the best advice someone has given you?
( Laura Taylor )
Be what you are.

What advice do you have for any young female singer considering
making music an important part of her life as a career?
( Laura Taylor )
Be strong and determined. Have a good sense of who you are as a
person,  that way no matter what level of success you achieve you will
always be grounded.

Take constructive criticism and use it to better yourself. Learn to
recognize the people in your life who are there for you no matter
what,
if you succeed they'll be your best allies, if you don't they'll still be
around.
( The Richmond Buzz )
What is the best form of flattery a fan can say
or do to a musician?
( Laura Taylor )
To have someone tell you that your performance
has given them some measure of escape.  That you
have made an impact and the experience
resonated with them.
( The Richmond Buzz )
What other talents do you have besides singing?
( Laura Taylor )
I write prose as well, songwriting is a fairly
new thing to me - I'm still getting my bearings
and trying to find my comfort zone, hopefully I
can
count it among my talents.   I also enjoy
photography, love my Polaroids and my dad's old
Minolta SRT-201,  I'd eventually like to have a
darkroom (as soon as rock stardom hits).  I am
also clumsily revisiting the instruments of
my youth, I have recently splurged on a keyboard
and just bought myself a guitar (which was not
( The Richmond Buzz )
How much personal experience do you draw from when writing songs,
do you generally write what you are currently going through and put
it to music?
( Laura Taylor )
It's hard for me to separate my life from what I write, occasionally
I'll  have a phrase that I really want to use and construct around
that, but for the most part I'm self centered in my lyric writing.
( The Richmond Buzz )
Who's CD's do you have in your collection?  If you could meet any
female singer from any era, who would it be and why?
( Laura Taylor )
Ah, cd's. I have ripped most on to my mp3 player which is the greatest
invention since electricity was harnessed. I have too many to name. The
influences over my lifetime have been varied, so I'll have anything
from Billie Holiday to Zappa.

I think Billie would be the one I'd want to meet, even though I'm a
rock singer, she really tipifies the emotive quality I like in music. Her
life was so hard and so evident in her vocialzation. You get the sense
that she knows of what she sings. I think she'd have a lot of
retrospective advice.
